The Campus as a Laboratory for Sustainability (CALS) program is offering up to $75,000 for faculty or student projects that advance Syracuse University’s goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, directly or indirectly, or through raising awareness on campus about climate disruption and environmental sustainability. Campus as a Laboratory for Sustainability Program Awards Funding for Four Projects

The Syracuse University Campus as a Laboratory for Sustainability (CALS) program awarded four projects funding in May 2019. The Syracuse University Climate Action Plan, which was released in 2009, provided the competitive funding as part of the CALS program, overseen by a team of faculty and staff from across the University. The program merges academic scholarship with the University’s broad initiative to meet energy efficiency goals while having our faculty and students use our campus as a testbed for innovative ideas. Syracuse University Ranks First, Second in ACC for RecycleMania Competition

Syracuse University placed first among participating Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) institutions and—for the third straight year—first in New York state in the Total Recycling category of the 2019 RecyleMania competition. The University also came in second among ACC institutions and third among the 15 participating New York colleges and universities in the competition’s Diversion category, as well as first in the ACC and fourth among 18 New York colleges and universities in the Per Capita Classic category. Sustainability Management incorporates sustainability across campus through students

Nestled away in the drumlins of South Campus lies the office of Sustainability Management. Recently relocated to 161 Farm Acre Road, Sustainability Management offers students from all areas of campus the ability to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real world application. Sustainability Management was formed in 2007 after the signing of the American Presidents Climate Commitment, now known as Second Nature. As the University already has a large catalog of courses and extracurricular activities available to educate students about sustainability and effects of global climate change, Sustainability Management developed an internship program to enhance their experience.
